Clear Lake in Waseca County, Minnesota

This map has 8 layers

Clear Lake is a popular 652-acre lake situated right within the town of Waseca in south-central Minnesota, featuring a maximum depth of 34 feet with approximately 4 miles of shoreline and two DNR-maintained public boat accesses for easy entry. This productive fishery is primarily managed for black crappie, bluegill, and largemouth bass, with secondary populations of northern pike and walleye supported through active stocking programs including 896 pounds of walleye fingerlings planted in even years and 112,000 northern pike fry stocked in odd years through the Minnesota Department of Natural Resources and Minnesota Darkhouse and Angling Association cooperative efforts. The lake also hosts white crappie, yellow perch, pumpkinseed, black and yellow bullhead, carp, and various rough fish species providing diverse angling opportunities year-round. With 69 percent of the lake less than 15 feet deep and 448 acres of productive littoral zone, Clear Lake offers excellent shallow water fishing areas ideal for panfish and bass, while deeper channels attract walleye and northern pike. The lake features two public accesses including Sportsman Park on the north side along Clear Lake Drive adjacent to Lakeside Golf Course with a concrete plank ramp and floating dock, and a southeast access off Highway 14, making it easily accessible for fishing boats, pontoons, kayaks, and canoes where anglers can pursue trophy catches while enjoying beautiful views of tree-lined shores and the charming town of Waseca

Located in Waseca County in the fertile farmland region of southern Minnesota, Clear Lake sits at the heart of a community that celebrates its rich agricultural heritage and small-town charm. The town of Waseca, whose Dakota name means "rich" referring to the area's productive soil, offers visitors exceptional attractions including Farmamerica Minnesota Agricultural Interpretive Center spanning over two centuries of farming history with 20 historic structures including two complete farmsteads, a one-room schoolhouse from the 1800s, country church, blacksmith shop, and a timeline train tour traveling through prairie interpretive center and 1930s dairy farm. Families love the Waseca Water Park featuring 9,561 square feet of splashing fun, Maplewood Park on the east side of Clear Lake preserving remnants of the big woods that once covered southern Minnesota with scenic hiking trails especially spectacular during fall color season, Kiesler's Campground offering full-service camping with pool, mini golf, playground and volleyball courts right across from the lake on Highway 14, and Barney's Duck Tour providing unique amphibious boat rides around the lake during summer evenings. The area boasts the Waseca County Historical Museum showcasing local heritage, War House Brewery in a historic building, LUSH Cakes drive-through featuring gourmet pastries and specialty coffee drinks, Pleasant Grove Pizza Farm offering farm-to-table wood-fired pizza with live music in a backyard setting with goats and llamas, downtown specialty shops and boutiques, Skydive Northstar for thrill-seekers, and annual festivals including the Waseca Sleigh and Cutter Festival with horse-drawn sleighs, curling, ice sculptures and parades, the Southern Minnesota Marching Band Festival attracting bands from four states, the Waseca County Fair, and Garden Day tours. Nearby attractions include Owatonna's massive Cabela's outdoor outfitter store and Medford Outlet Mall just 15 miles away, and the vibrant city of Mankato offering additional shopping, dining, and entertainment options 30 miles to the west

This beautifully crafted laser-cut wooden map of Clear Lake would make a wonderful centerpiece in your Waseca area home, Minnesota cabin, or office, capturing the community character and fishing heritage of this beloved south-central Minnesota lake. The handcrafted design features a natural wood top layer that elegantly showcases the lake's 4 miles of shoreline with protected bays and coves, the two public boat access locations, tree-lined residential areas, and the surrounding agricultural landscape that defines Waseca County's identity. The water depth is illustrated through a graduated light blue to dark blue gradient that captures the gentle depth variations from the extensive shallow littoral zone teeming with crappie, bluegill and bass to the 34-foot maximum depth near the center where walleye and northern pike patrol deeper waters, creating a charming three-dimensional representation of this community treasure. Whether commemorating successful catches of trophy black crappie and largemouth bass, peaceful kayak expeditions around the lake's perimeter, family swimming adventures at the public beaches, summer evenings watching ducks and loons while strolling the shoreline parks, or simply celebrating your connection to Waseca's rich agricultural heritage and small-town hospitality, this quality piece serves as both attractive wall art and a cherished reminder of memorable moments spent on Clear Lake's welcoming waters in the heart of Minnesota's farmland

About our Maps

Every map is designed and built in Minnesota. Nothing is outsourced and nothing is imported.

  • Designed in-house. All art files are created by me, not purchased or reused
  • True layered 3D construction. Not engraved or printed
  • More layers, more detail. Most competitors use 3 to 7 layers. These use 8 or 15 layers
  • Original blue depth gradient. Light to dark blue shows water depth clearly
  • Handmade hardwood frames. Built from locally sourced rough sawn lumber, not pre-made frames

These are built to be the most accurate and most detailed 3D lake maps available.

Frequently Asked Questions

Are these actually 3D or just engraved?

These are true 3D layered maps.

  • Made from 1/8 inch Baltic birch
  • Standard maps have 8 layers. 1 land layer and 7 water layers
  • HD maps have 15 layers. 1 land layer and 14 water layers

Each water layer uses a light to dark blue gradient so depth changes are easy to see.

Where are these made?

Everything is made in my shop in Minnesota.

  • Design
  • Cutting
  • Painting
  • Assembly
  • Frame building

The frames start as locally sourced rough sawn hardwood and are built from scratch.

Do you use real depth data?

Yes, as an angler and map nerd, accuracy matters to me. I use multiple data sources, up to six, to find the most accurate lake contours available.

I would not hang an inaccurate map in my house and I will not send one to yours.

Why buy from Horn Dog Maps instead of Etsy or marketplace sellers?

Most marketplace sellers:

  • Buy pre-made cut files, often from overseas
  • Have no connection to the lakes
  • Cannot verify accuracy
  • Have long delays if a file is not available

This leads to lower accuracy and longer lead times, often 6 to 8 weeks.

Because I design everything myself:

  • I can create a new lake mockup in about 30 minutes
  • You get a more accurate map, faster

What is your lead time?

Most orders ship in 1.5 to 2 weeks depending on the time of year.

Tell me about the Cribbage Boards

These are different from the layered maps and are not something you will find elsewhere.

  • Made from a solid piece of Maple or Cherry
  • The lake is engraved as if drained
  • Then filled with blue tinted epoxy that is still transparent

You can see:

  • Channels
  • Humps
  • Points
  • Structure

Additional features:

  • 2 or 3 track options
  • Choice of peg colors
  • Hidden peg storage with a magnetic dovetail slider
  • Rubber feet so it does not slide on the table

It is a functional game board and a detailed lake model in one.
