Eagle Lake in Otter Tail County, Minnesota

This lake has 8 Layers or 15 Layers for HD Version

Eagle Lake is an 845-acre mesotrophic natural lake located eight miles south of Battle Lake in south-central Otter Tail County, renowned as one of the cleanest and clearest lakes in Minnesota with exceptional water clarity averaging 21.4 feet and readings ranging from 14.8 to 25.2 feet. The lake reaches a maximum depth of 46 feet with hard sand and gravel bottom substrates creating ideal habitat, though it has no emergent aquatic vegetation and no inlets or outlets, making it a closed-basin lake within the Pomme de Terre River Watershed. This pristine fishery supports excellent populations of Walleye averaging 13.6 inches with fast growth rates reaching 15.3 inches at four years of age, along with abundant Largemouth Bass, Bluegill, Black Crappie, Northern Pike ranging from 14.8 to 28.4 inches, Yellow Perch, Pumpkinseed, Rock Bass, and various bullhead species including Black, Brown, and Yellow Bullhead. The lake was designated as infested with zebra mussels in 2019, though the increased water clarity has enhanced fishing conditions. With a township-owned concrete public boat launch and swimming beach located in a park along the south shore and the entire four miles of shoreline extensively developed with homes and cabins, the lake is perfect for fishing, boating, water sports, swimming, kayaking, and year-round recreation in crystal-clear spring-fed waters

Located within Eagle Lake Township (organized September 5, 1870 and named for this largest and deepest lake within its borders) approximately eight miles south of Battle Lake in Minnesota's legendary Otter Tail County, which boasts 1,048 lakes—more than any county in the United States. The surrounding landscape features the dramatic Leaf Mountains where the Fergus Falls Moraine and Leaf Hills Moraine unite, creating a belt of drift hills towering up to 350 feet high that provide stunning views of neighboring counties and watersheds. Battle Lake, the charming nearby town of 857 residents named after historic battles between Ojibwe and Dakota people during the 1795 Dakota-Ojibwe War, offers unique boutique shopping, local restaurants, bowling, the historic Prospect House and Civil War Museum showcasing Civil War veteran Cap Colehour's 1882 home with furnishings unchanged since 1929, and beach access at nearby lakes. Visitors can explore Glendalough State Park just three miles from Battle Lake featuring 1,924 acres with Annie Battle Lake designated as a Heritage Fishery, the 12-mile Glendalough Trail loop for biking between town and park, Paul's Metal Petals and Art of the Lakes galleries for incredible sculptures and art, and the scenic Pine to Prairie Birding Trail with 275 bird species. The area provides access to nearby West Battle Lake, Otter Tail Lake, multiple public beaches throughout the county, 10 golf courses including Thumper Pond Golf Course, and charming towns like Ottertail, Perham, and Fergus Falls with unique shopping, dining including Zorbaz beach bar for pizza and summer drinks, and the historic North Country National Scenic Trail running through Otter Tail County as part of its 4,600-mile journey from North Dakota to Vermont

This exquisite handcrafted laser-cut wooden topographical map of Eagle Lake would create a stunning focal point in your Otter Tail County lake home, cabin, or office, celebrating your connection to one of Minnesota's clearest and most environmentally pristine lakes. The artistic design features a natural wood top layer of maple or birch that beautifully frames the lake's 845-acre closed-basin shape and four miles of developed shoreline, while the water depths are represented through a captivating gradient flowing from light blue in the shallower areas to rich deep blue at the 46-foot maximum depth. Every contour, the public beach and boat launch location, and distinctive features are precisely laser-etched into the multi-layered wood construction, creating a three-dimensional piece of wall art that beautifully captures the exceptional 21.4-foot water clarity and natural beauty of this beloved spring-fed lake in Eagle Lake Township, named for this deepest and largest lake within its borders and situated among the dramatic Leaf Mountains of Otter Tail County

The difference between standard and HD maps is the number of layers. Standard maps have 1 land layer and 7 water layers. " The HD lake maps have 1 land layer and 14 water layers. So twice the detail. The HD Maps are limited to Extra Large, " XX Large, and Gigantic sizes only. On the smaller sizes the depth change of the wood is too extreme and you end up losing detail.

Frequently Asked Questions

Are these actually 3D or just engraved?

These are true 3D layered maps.

  • Made from 1/8 inch Baltic birch
  • Standard maps have 8 layers. 1 land layer and 7 water layers
  • HD maps have 15 layers. 1 land layer and 14 water layers

Each water layer uses a light to dark blue gradient so depth changes are easy to see.

Where are these made?

Everything is made in my shop in Minnesota.

  • Design
  • Cutting
  • Painting
  • Assembly
  • Frame building

The frames start as locally sourced rough sawn hardwood and are built from scratch.

Do you use real depth data?

Yes, as an angler and map nerd, accuracy matters to me. I use multiple data sources, up to six, to find the most accurate lake contours available.

I would not hang an inaccurate map in my house and I will not send one to yours.

Why buy from Horn Dog Maps instead of Etsy or marketplace sellers?

Most marketplace sellers:

  • Buy pre-made cut files, often from overseas
  • Have no connection to the lakes
  • Cannot verify accuracy
  • Have long delays if a file is not available

This leads to lower accuracy and longer lead times, often 6 to 8 weeks.

Because I design everything myself:

  • I can create a new lake mockup in about 30 minutes
  • You get a more accurate map, faster

What is your lead time?

Most orders ship in 1.5 to 2 weeks depending on the time of year.

Tell me about the Cribbage Boards

These are different from the layered maps and are not something you will find elsewhere.

  • Made from a solid piece of Maple or Cherry
  • The lake is engraved as if drained
  • Then filled with blue tinted epoxy that is still transparent

You can see:

  • Channels
  • Humps
  • Points
  • Structure

Additional features:

  • 2 or 3 track options
  • Choice of peg colors
  • Hidden peg storage with a magnetic dovetail slider
  • Rubber feet so it does not slide on the table

It is a functional game board and a detailed lake model in one.
