Angostura Reservoir is a 4,407-acre man-made reservoir located on the Cheyenne River in southwestern South Dakota, featuring crystal clear waters, 42 miles of scenic shoreline, and some of the finest sandy beaches in the state. Created in 1949 by the U.S. Bureau of Reclamation for irrigation purposes, the reservoir reaches a maximum depth of 75 feet near the dam with an average depth of 29 feet throughout the lake. The name "Angostura" means "narrows" in Spanish, reflecting the geography of its location. The reservoir supports exceptional fishing populations including Walleye, Smallmouth Bass, Largemouth Bass, Northern Pike, Crappie, Bluegill, Yellow Perch, and Channel Catfish, making it one of the premier fishing destinations in western South Dakota. With no horsepower restrictions and average summer water temperatures of 66 degrees, the lake is ideal for all water sports including boating, water skiing, swimming, kayaking, and paddleboarding.
Located 10 miles southeast of Hot Springs at the southeastern edge of the Black Hills near the Nebraska border, Angostura Reservoir offers easy access to some of South Dakota's most iconic attractions. Hot Springs, known as the gateway to the Black Hills, features natural warm mineral springs, the world-famous Mammoth Site with its incredible ice-age fossil collection, Evans Plunge indoor thermal pool, and historic sandstone architecture. The difference between standard and HD maps is the number of layers. Standard maps have 1 land layer and 7 water layers. " The HD lake maps have 1 land layer and 14 water layers. So twice the detail. The HD Maps are limited to Extra Large, " XX Large, and Gigantic sizes only. On the smaller sizes the depth change of the wood is too extreme and you end up losing detail."
