Fort Peck Lake in Montana

This map has 8 layers

Fort Peck Lake, a colossal 245,000-acre reservoir, stands as Montana's largest body of water and one of the largest man-made lakes in the world. Stretching across seven counties in northeastern Montana—Cascade, Fergus, Garfield, McCone, Petroleum, Phillips, and Valley—this immense lake was formed by the Fort Peck Dam on the Missouri River. Boasting an incredible 1,520 miles of diverse shoreline, which exceeds the coastline of California, and reaching a maximum depth of 220 feet, Fort Peck Lake is a vital resource for flood control, hydroelectric power, and exceptional recreation.

As a premier destination in Montana's vast landscape, Fort Peck Lake offers unparalleled opportunities for outdoor adventure. It is renowned for its world-class fishing, attracting anglers to its abundant populations of Walleye, Northern Pike, Chinook Salmon, and various species of bass. The lake's immense size accommodates all forms of water sports, from tranquil kayaking in secluded bays to high-speed boating across its open waters. Surrounded by the wild, rugged beauty of the Missouri River Breaks National Monument, Fort Peck Lake provides a truly unique and expansive wilderness experience, making it a significant natural and recreational treasure in Montana.
