Hart Lake in Itasca County, Minnesota

This lake has 8 Layers or 15 Layers for HD Version

Hart Lake is a moderately fertile 328-acre natural lake in southeastern Itasca County featuring clear water that reaches a maximum depth of 55 feet with seven miles of scenic shoreline, much of which remains undeveloped and in a natural state. Located within the Mississippi River watershed, the lake has three inlets of wetland origin and an outlet to Swan Lake, creating excellent habitat structure. This productive fishery supports healthy populations of Northern Pike as the primary management species, along with exceptional fishing for Largemouth Bass, Black Crappie, Bluegill, Walleye, Yellow Perch, Rock Bass, Pumpkinseed, and multiple bullhead species including Black, Brown, and Yellow Bullhead. The lake also contains Bowfin and several forage fish species including Cisco (Tullibee), providing a diverse ecosystem. A county-owned earthen boat ramp with convenient access is located at the north end of the lake, making it ideal for fishing, boating, water sports, kayaking, and year-round recreation, though anglers should be aware of flowering rush, an invasive aquatic species present in the lake.

Located near the small town of Pengilly in Minnesota's legendary Iron Range region at the northern end of Swan Lake, Hart Lake sits approximately 19 miles northeast of Grand Rapids, the largest city in Itasca County and known as Minnesota's Outdoor Sports Capital. The surrounding area provides access to the famous 135-mile paved Mesabi Trail connecting Grand Rapids through Pengilly, Nashwauk, Keewatin, Hibbing, and beyond for biking and walking, plus over 300 miles of snowmobile trails and 200 miles of cross-country ski trails. Nearby Grand Rapids features the beloved Judy Garland Museum and Children's Discovery Museum celebrating the birthplace of the legendary actress, the MacRostie Art Center with monthly rotating exhibits, the Reif Center performing arts venue, the Itasca County Historical Society, and the gateway to the 667,000-acre Chippewa National Forest with its exceptional wildlife viewing and over 1,000 lakes and rivers for fishing and paddling. The area offers access to multiple state parks, ATV trails, and endless outdoor recreation opportunities in Minnesota's beautiful northwoods.

This beautifully handcrafted laser-cut wooden topographical map of Hart Lake would make an elegant centerpiece in your Iron Range cabin, lake home, or office, celebrating your connection to this pristine Itasca County gem. The artistic design features a natural wood top layer of maple or birch that elegantly frames the lake's distinctive shape and seven miles of detailed shoreline, while the water depths are represented through a captivating gradient flowing from light blue in the shallower wetland areas to rich deep blue at the impressive 55-foot maximum depth. Every contour, inlet, outlet connection to Swan Lake, and depth feature is precisely laser-etched into the multi-layered wood construction, creating a stunning three-dimensional piece of wall art that beautifully captures the natural character and fishing heritage of this beloved Minnesota lake within the Mississippi River watershed.
