Hooker Lake in Kenosha County, Wisconsin
This lake has 8 Layers or 15 Layers for HD Version
Hooker Lake is a 103-acre natural lake located in south central Kenosha County, approximately twenty minutes west of Interstate 94 and three-quarters of a mile south of Highway 50 in the Village of Paddock Lake. The lake reaches a maximum depth of 24 feet with medium clear water and features a diverse bottom composition including muck, peat, sand, and gravel patches along different sections of shoreline. The north half consists of a large weedy flat with depths up to 14 feet, while the south end features sharper drop-offs descending to the maximum 24-foot depth. Anglers can access the lake from a public boat ramp on 78th Street and can expect to catch largemouth bass, northern pike, bluegill, yellow perch, and walleye, with largemouth bass being abundant according to the Wisconsin DNR. The diverse aquatic vegetation including weed beds creates excellent fish habitat, and local anglers report catching trophy bass exceeding five pounds as well as solid northern pike throughout the year, making ice fishing particularly popular during winter months when eight inches or more of solid ice forms across the lake
Hooker Lake sits in the heart of southeastern Wisconsin's lake country between Milwaukee and Chicago, offering convenient access to big-city amenities while maintaining a peaceful small-town atmosphere. The Village of Paddock Lake features the popular 3.4-mile Lake Walk around neighboring Paddock Lake, Old Settlers County Park with recreational facilities, and McAlonan Park with amenities including basketball courts and picnic areas. The surrounding region offers outdoor enthusiasts access to the 11-mile Fox River Water Trail for kayaking and canoeing, Richard Bong State Recreation Area for hiking and camping, and numerous county parks featuring bike trails, disc golf courses, and nature preserves. Nearby attractions include the famous Bristol Renaissance Faire featuring jousting knights and sixteenth-century entertainment, Frank's Diner in Kenosha featured on Food Network's "Diners, Drive-Ins and Dives," and the vibrant Kenosha waterfront on Lake Michigan with museums, festivals, and dining options, all within a short drive of this tucked-away fishing destination that offers surprisingly productive angling opportunities for those seeking to escape the hustle of urban life
This handcrafted laser-cut wooden lake map of Hooker Lake would make an exceptional addition to your Wisconsin lake house, fishing cabin, or home, serving as both stunning wall art and a treasured reminder of successful bass fishing trips and peaceful days on the water. The detailed multi-layered design beautifully captures the lake's distinctive features including the shallow northern weedy flats, the deeper southern basin descending to 24 feet, and the intimate shoreline that makes this 103-acre gem such a beloved local fishing destination. With its natural wood top layer and gradient blue water layers flowing from light to dark blue, this rustic yet sophisticated piece complements any decor from traditional Wisconsin northwoods lodge style to contemporary lake home interiors, making it the perfect personalized gift for anglers, lakefront property owners, or anyone who cherishes their connection to southeastern Wisconsin's exceptional fishing heritage and the quiet beauty of Kenosha County's hidden lake treasures

Frequently Asked Questions
Are these actually 3D or just engraved?
These are true 3D layered maps.
- Made from 1/8 inch Baltic birch
- Standard maps have 8 layers. 1 land layer and 7 water layers
- HD maps have 15 layers. 1 land layer and 14 water layers
Each water layer uses a light to dark blue gradient so depth changes are easy to see.
Where are these made?
Everything is made in my shop in Minnesota.
- Design
- Cutting
- Painting
- Assembly
- Frame building
The frames start as locally sourced rough sawn hardwood and are built from scratch.
Do you use real depth data?
Yes, as an angler and map nerd, accuracy matters to me. I use multiple data sources, up to six, to find the most accurate lake contours available.
I would not hang an inaccurate map in my house and I will not send one to yours.
Why buy from Horn Dog Maps instead of Etsy or marketplace sellers?
Most marketplace sellers:
- Buy pre-made cut files, often from overseas
- Have no connection to the lakes
- Cannot verify accuracy
- Have long delays if a file is not available
This leads to lower accuracy and longer lead times, often 6 to 8 weeks.
Because I design everything myself:
- I can create a new lake mockup in about 30 minutes
- You get a more accurate map, faster
What is your lead time?
Most orders ship in 1.5 to 2 weeks depending on the time of year.
Tell me about the Cribbage Boards
These are different from the layered maps and are not something you will find elsewhere.
- Made from a solid piece of Maple or Cherry
- The lake is engraved as if drained
- Then filled with blue tinted epoxy that is still transparent
You can see:
- Channels
- Humps
- Points
- Structure
Additional features:
- 2 or 3 track options
- Choice of peg colors
- Hidden peg storage with a magnetic dovetail slider
- Rubber feet so it does not slide on the table
It is a functional game board and a detailed lake model in one.
