Lake Pontchartrain is a 403,200-acre brackish estuary in southeastern Louisiana, stretching 40 miles east to west and 24 miles north to south with an average depth of just 12 to 14 feet and a maximum depth of 65 feet near its dredged navigation channels. Technically a tidal lagoon connected to the Gulf of Mexico through the Rigolets Strait and Lake Borgne, it is the largest body of water in Louisiana and the second-largest saltwater lake in the United States, fed by the Amite, Bogue Falaya, Tangipahoa, Tchefuncte, and Tickfaw Rivers. Its brackish waters teem with Speckled Trout, Red Drum, Largemouth Bass, Striped Bass, Flounder, Sheepshead, and Channel Catfish alongside bull sharks, American alligators, brown pelicans, and countless migratory waterfowl in one of the Gulf Coast's most ecologically significant wetland systems.
Bordered by six Louisiana parishes and six cities including New Orleans, Metairie, Kenner, Slidell, Mandeville, and Madisonville, Lake Pontchartrain is the geographic and cultural heart of southeastern Louisiana. The Lake Pontchartrain Causeway spanning its full 24-mile width is the longest continuous bridge over water in the world, connecting Metairie on the south shore to Mandeville on the north. Are these actually 3D or just engraved?
These are true 3D layered maps.
- Made from 1/8 inch Baltic birch
- Standard maps have 8 layers. 1 land layer and 7 water layers
- HD maps have 15 layers. 1 land layer and 14 water layers
Each water layer uses a light to dark blue gradient so depth changes are easy to see.

Everything is made in my shop in Minnesota.

Do you use real depth data?
Yes, as an angler and map nerd, accuracy matters to me. I use multiple data sources, up to six, to find the most accurate lake contours available.
I would not hang an inaccurate map in my house and I will not send one to yours.
