Upper, Middle, and Lower Range Ponds in Poland, Maine
This map has 8 layers
The Range Ponds, a three-lake chain totaling over 1,000 acres, are a cherished natural feature located primarily in Poland, Maine, spanning Androscoggin and Cumberland counties. These interconnected ponds—Upper, Middle, and Lower—run north to south and are known for their "above average" water quality and diverse fish habitat. The ponds are all at the same elevation, connected by narrow necks, allowing for navigation between them. The deepest of the three is Middle Range Pond at 66 feet, making it a productive fishery for species like Brown Trout, Lake Trout, Smallmouth Bass, and Largemouth Bass, making this chain a year-round paradise for New England anglers.
As a central destination in the Lewiston/Auburn area, this lake system provides an ideal setting for a wide array of outdoor pursuits, with much of the activity centered around Lower Range Pond. This is the location of the Range Ponds State Park, which features a wide sandy beach, a promenade, lifeguard-supervised swimming, and a public boat launch limited to 10 horsepower motors. Visitors can also explore several miles of hiking and intermediate mountain biking trails within the park, or enjoy golfing at the nearby Poland Spring Country Club. The blend of excellent recreation and easy accessibility makes the Range Ponds a beloved choice for a classic Southern Maine lake experience.
