This lake has 8 Layers or 15 Layers for HD Version
Strawberry Reservoir is a 17,164-acre reservoir on the Strawberry River in Wasatch County, located 23 miles southeast of Heber City along U.S. Highway 40 at an elevation between 7,200 and 7,800 feet above sea level. Originally constructed in 1913 as one of the earliest federal reclamation projects and dramatically expanded in 1972 when Soldier Creek Dam combined the original Strawberry Reservoir with nearby Soldier Creek Reservoir, this massive impoundment serves as the terminal reservoir for the Strawberry Aqueduct and Collection System, storing water diverted from ten tributaries of the Colorado River drainage for delivery through the Strawberry Tunnel across the Wasatch Mountains to supply irrigation and municipal water to Utah Valley's Bonneville Basin. The reservoir features 138 miles of scenic shoreline winding through rolling sagebrush-covered hills and aspen-dotted valleys, reaching depths of 240 feet with an average depth varying by basin, while the 272-foot-tall earthen Soldier Creek Dam creates four distinct fishing areas including the expansive Strawberry Basin comprising 64 percent of the reservoir's volume, the shallow Meadows section at the southern end, the deep Soldier Creek Basin containing the old Soldier Creek Reservoir, and the Narrows connecting the major basins through dramatic serpentine channels. Strawberry Reservoir earned the American Fisheries Society's Outstanding Sport Fish Development and Restoration Project of the Year award in 2006, recognizing decades of intensive fishery management including multiple rotenone treatments to eliminate rough fish populations and strategic stocking programs that transformed it into Utah's most popular and productive trout fishery receiving over 1.5 million angling hours annually.
Strawberry Reservoir is designated as a Blue Ribbon Fishery and consistently ranks among the top trout fishing destinations in the western United States, with Utah Division of Wildlife Resources stocking over 1.2 million rainbow trout annually along with managing exceptional populations of Bear Lake strain Bonneville cutthroat trout specifically selected for their aggressive predation on Utah chub, plus prized kokanee salmon that provide outstanding fishing opportunities and spectacular spawning runs. Fishing success peaks during spring and fall seasons, though the reservoir remains open year-round with excellent ice fishing during January and February attracting thousands of anglers to fish through the frozen surface, while special regulations protect trophy-sized cutthroat trout between 15 and 22 inches which must be immediately released to maintain the fishery's biological control of rough fish populations. Four full-service recreation complexes provide comprehensive amenities including Strawberry Bay Marina and Soldier Creek Marina with boat rentals, fuel docks, slip rentals, fish cleaning stations, general stores, restaurants, and lodging at Strawberry Bay Lodge, plus Renegade and Aspen Grove day-use areas with paved boat ramps providing easy water access for powerboats, sailboats, water skiers, wakeboarders, kayakers, and paddleboarders. The Uinta-Wasatch-Cache National Forest operates numerous developed campgrounds around the reservoir including Strawberry Bay with full RV hookups, Soldier Creek with over 150 sites and a group shelter accommodating 100 people, plus Renegade and Aspen Grove campgrounds offering more intimate settings, all featuring paved roads, flush toilets, drinking water, covered picnic tables, fire rings, dump stations, and stunning panoramic views of the reservoir and surrounding mountains. Beyond water-based activities, visitors enjoy the 75-mile Strawberry OHV Trail System open to ATVs, mountain bikes, and horseback riders, scenic hiking trails including the popular 11-mile Strawberry Narrows Trail showcasing diverse ecosystems from sagebrush valleys to aspen groves and alpine meadows, winter snowmobiling and cross-country skiing, and educational opportunities at the Strawberry Reservoir Visitor Center featuring interpretive displays, a working fish trap and egg collection station, nature trails, and ranger-led programs. Nearby Heber City provides additional amenities and attractions including the historic Heber Valley Railroad known as the Heber Creeper, Wasatch Mountain State Park with golf courses and camping, Deer Creek Reservoir and Jordanelle Reservoir offering more water recreation just minutes away, plus charming downtown shopping, dining, and cultural attractions making Strawberry Reservoir an ideal base for exploring Utah's spectacular Wasatch Back region.

The difference between standard and HD maps is the number of layers. Standard maps have 1 land layer and 7 water layers. " The HD lake maps have 1 land layer and 14 water layers. So twice the detail. The HD Maps are limited to Extra Large, " XX Large, and Gigantic sizes only. On the smaller sizes the depth change of the wood is too extreme and you end up losing detail."
