This lake has 8 Layers or 15 Layers for HD Version
Tims Ford Lake is a 10,700-acre reservoir in south central Tennessee, spanning Franklin and Moore Counties in the picturesque foothills of the Cumberland Plateau. Created by the Tennessee Valley Authority between 1966 and 1970 through the damming of the Elk River, the reservoir stretches 34 miles upstream and features approximately 250 miles of pristine shoreline, making it one of the most scenic and cleanest lakes in the mid-south. Named after Abner Mansfield Tims, an early Franklin County settler who owned land near a historic ford crossing the Elk River used until 1885, the lake reaches a maximum depth of 150 feet near the 175-foot-high, 1,580-foot-long Tims Ford Dam. The reservoir maintains a summer pool elevation of 888 feet above sea level and varies about 15 feet annually to accommodate winter drawdown for flood control. The lake features six accessible islands for camping and exploration including Leatherwood Island, Big Island, Little Island, Maple Bend Island, Goose Island, and Devils Step, which were once hilltops before the valley was flooded. Surrounded by five cities including Winchester (the Franklin County seat), Decherd, Estill Springs, Tullahoma, and Lynchburg, Tims Ford Lake is approximately 100 miles from both Nashville and Chattanooga, making it an ideal weekend destination for residents of Tennessee's major metropolitan areas
Designated as a Bill Dance Signature Lake, Tims Ford Lake is considered one of the premier bass fishing and recreational lakes in the Southeast, particularly renowned for its exceptional smallmouth bass fishery, widely regarded as the best reservoir smallmouth bass fishing in middle Tennessee. Bass fishing accounts for 75 percent of targeted angling effort, with the lake supporting robust populations of largemouth bass, smallmouth bass, spotted bass, along with annually stocked striped bass, hybrid striped bass, walleye, and black and white crappie, plus catfish and bluegill. The lake hosts numerous local and professional fishing tournaments throughout the year, including the Tennessee Bass Nation competitions and the Tims Ford Bass Club's annual Spring Classic held the first Saturday in April. The 3,546-acre Tims Ford State Park, opened in 1978, serves as the recreational centerpiece of the lake, offering 20 fully equipped cabins with fireplaces and lakefront views, two developed campgrounds with 168 RV and tent sites, primitive camping on the six lake islands, 11 hiking trails, two pavilions, and the Lake View Marina providing pontoon boat, kayak, and canoe rentals along with a snack bar and bait shop. The crown jewel of the park is The Bear Trace at Tims Ford, an award-winning Jack Nicklaus-designed 18-hole championship golf course that opened in 1999 as part of the Tennessee Golf Trail, featuring 6,764 yards of play with the reservoir visible from most holes and coming into play on several, creating an excellent balance of challenge and scenic beauty. Visitors can also explore nearby attractions including the famous Jack Daniel's Distillery in Lynchburg, historic downtown Winchester with its charming boutiques and restaurants, and enjoy diverse wildlife viewing including bald eagles, deer, and various waterfowl species that thrive in the 10,000 acres devoted to wildlife management surrounding the lake

The difference between standard and HD maps is the number of layers. Standard maps have 1 land layer and 7 water layers. " The HD lake maps have 1 land layer and 14 water layers. So twice the detail. The HD Maps are limited to Extra Large, " XX Large, and Gigantic sizes only. On the smaller sizes the depth change of the wood is too extreme and you end up losing detail."

Frequently Asked Questions
Are these actually 3D or just engraved?
These are true 3D layered maps.
- Made from 1/8 inch Baltic birch
- Standard maps have 8 layers. 1 land layer and 7 water layers
- HD maps have 15 layers. 1 land layer and 14 water layers
Each water layer uses a light to dark blue gradient so depth changes are easy to see.
Where are these made?
Everything is made in my shop in Minnesota.
- Design
- Cutting
- Painting
- Assembly
- Frame building
The frames start as locally sourced rough sawn hardwood and are built from scratch.
Do you use real depth data?
Yes, as an angler and map nerd, accuracy matters to me. I use multiple data sources, up to six, to find the most accurate lake contours available.
I would not hang an inaccurate map in my house and I will not send one to yours.
Why buy from Horn Dog Maps instead of Etsy or marketplace sellers?
Most marketplace sellers:
- Buy pre-made cut files, often from overseas
- Have no connection to the lakes
- Cannot verify accuracy
- Have long delays if a file is not available
This leads to lower accuracy and longer lead times, often 6 to 8 weeks.
Because I design everything myself:
- I can create a new lake mockup in about 30 minutes
- You get a more accurate map, faster
What is your lead time?
Most orders ship in 1.5 to 2 weeks depending on the time of year.
Tell me about the Cribbage Boards
These are different from the layered maps and are not something you will find elsewhere.

- Then filled with blue tinted epoxy that is still transparent
You can see:
- Channels
- Humps
- Points
- Structure
Additional features:
- 2 or 3 track options
- Choice of peg colors
- Hidden peg storage with a magnetic dovetail slider
- Rubber feet so it does not slide on the table
It is a functional game board and a detailed lake model in one.
