Two Inlets Lake in Becker County, Minnesota

This lake has 8 Layers or 15 Layers for HD Version

Two Inlets Lake is a 578-acre natural lake in scenic eastern Becker County, Minnesota, located just south of the small community of Two Inlets and approximately 10 miles north of Park Rapids along U.S. Highway 71. The lake's distinctive name originated from two inflowing streams that meet at nearly the same point along the shoreline, creating the natural inlets that early settlers and Native Americans used to describe this pristine body of water. Featuring seven miles of irregular shoreline winding through rolling woodlands and wetlands, the lake reaches a maximum depth of 60 feet with an average depth of 23 feet, creating varied aquatic habitat from shallow vegetated bays to deep open water basins. The Minnesota Department of Natural Resources classifies Two Inlets Lake as a Class 25 lake, meaning it is characteristically deep, very clear, has hard water chemistry, and features an irregularly shaped shoreline with a high percentage of littoral area less than 15 feet deep. Other similar Class 25 lakes in the Park Rapids area include Bad Axe, Belle Taine, West Crooked, Ninth Crow Wing, Ojibway, Island, Big Mantrap, Little Sand, Skunk, Spider, and Straight lakes. A state-owned public access located on the northwest shore provides convenient launching facilities for anglers and boaters, while the lake's crystal-clear waters and diverse fish populations have made it a favorite destination for local residents and visitors exploring Minnesota's beautiful lake country

Two Inlets Lake is actively managed by the Minnesota Department of Natural Resources and offers exceptional multi-species fishing opportunities that consistently attract anglers throughout the year seeking trophy-sized fish in pristine waters. The lake supports robust populations of Walleye averaging 16 inches with many fish in the desirable 12 to 21-inch range and specimens up to 27 inches, Northern Pike with fast growth rates producing fish averaging 21 inches and 2.2 pounds with catches ranging from 14 to 34 inches, Largemouth Bass of impressive size ranging from 14.5 to 18.8 inches with most fish between 15 and 16 inches, plus abundant panfish including Black Crappie, Bluegill, Pumpkinseed, Rock Bass, and Yellow Perch that provide excellent action for families and light tackle enthusiasts. Recent DNR surveys indicate above-average walleye numbers with consistent abundance over multiple years, while Northern Pike populations remain in the high end of the desirable range with exceptional growth rates compared to similar lakes in the region. The lake also contains forage species including various minnow species, Cisco or Tullibee, and other small fish that support the predator populations and create a balanced, healthy aquatic ecosystem. Beyond fishing, the lake's clear waters and scenic setting within the Two Inlets State Forest provide opportunities for swimming, kayaking, canoeing, and wildlife observation, while the surrounding forest offers hundreds of miles of hiking, mountain biking, and ATV trails maintained by local clubs. The nearby town of Park Rapids, just 10 miles south, serves as the "Gateway to Itasca State Park" and offers shopping, dining, lodging, and entertainment options, while Itasca State Park itself lies just 20 miles north, featuring the headwaters of the Mississippi River, over 32,000 acres of pristine wilderness, 100 lakes, historic Douglas Lodge, camping facilities, the Heartland State Trail connecting to Cass Lake, and year-round recreational opportunities that make the Two Inlets Lake area an ideal base for exploring northwestern Minnesota's natural treasures

The difference between standard and HD maps is the number of layers. Standard maps have 1 land layer and 7 water layers. " The HD lake maps have 1 land layer and 14 water layers. So twice the detail. The HD Maps are limited to Extra Large, " XX Large, and Gigantic sizes only. On the smaller sizes the depth change of the wood is too extreme and you end up losing detail.

Every map is designed and built in Minnesota. Nothing is outsourced and nothing is imported.

  • Designed in-house. All art files are created by me, not purchased or reused
  • True layered 3D construction. Not engraved or printed
  • More layers, more detail. Most competitors use 3 to 7 layers. These use 8 or 15 layers
  • Original blue depth gradient. Light to dark blue shows water depth clearly
  • Handmade hardwood frames. Built from locally sourced rough sawn lumber, not pre-made frames

These are built to be the most accurate and most detailed 3D lake maps available.

Frequently Asked Questions

Are these actually 3D or just engraved?

These are true 3D layered maps.

  • Made from 1/8 inch Baltic birch
  • Standard maps have 8 layers. 1 land layer and 7 water layers
  • HD maps have 15 layers. 1 land layer and 14 water layers

Each water layer uses a light to dark blue gradient so depth changes are easy to see.

Where are these made?

Everything is made in my shop in Minnesota.

  • Design
  • Cutting
  • Painting
  • Assembly
  • Frame building

The frames start as locally sourced rough sawn hardwood and are built from scratch.

Do you use real depth data?

Yes, as an angler and map nerd, accuracy matters to me. I use multiple data sources, up to six, to find the most accurate lake contours available.

I would not hang an inaccurate map in my house and I will not send one to yours.

Why buy from Horn Dog Maps instead of Etsy or marketplace sellers?

Most marketplace sellers:

  • Buy pre-made cut files, often from overseas
  • Have no connection to the lakes
  • Cannot verify accuracy
  • Have long delays if a file is not available

This leads to lower accuracy and longer lead times, often 6 to 8 weeks.

Because I design everything myself:

  • I can create a new lake mockup in about 30 minutes
  • You get a more accurate map, faster

What is your lead time?

Most orders ship in 1.5 to 2 weeks depending on the time of year.

Tell me about the Cribbage Boards

These are different from the layered maps and are not something you will find elsewhere.

  • Made from a solid piece of Maple or Cherry
  • The lake is engraved as if drained
  • Then filled with blue tinted epoxy that is still transparent

You can see:

  • Channels
  • Humps
  • Points
  • Structure

Additional features:

  • 2 or 3 track options
  • Choice of peg colors
  • Hidden peg storage with a magnetic dovetail slider
  • Rubber feet so it does not slide on the table

It is a functional game board and a detailed lake model in one.
