Upper and Lower Bottle Lakes in Hubbard County, Minnesota

This lake has 8 Layers or 15 Layers for HD Version

Upper and Lower Bottle Lakes are two connected bodies of water in southern Hubbard County, Minnesota, located five miles north of Dorset and separated only by a narrow channel. Upper Bottle spans 459 acres with a maximum depth of 55 feet and approximately 4 miles of shoreline, while Lower Bottle covers 641 acres with an impressive maximum depth of 110 feet and 6 miles of shoreline. Together, these lakes offer over 1,100 acres of pristine waters and are managed as a single fishery by the Minnesota Department of Natural Resources. The lakes feature exceptional fishing opportunities with thriving populations of walleye, northern pike, largemouth and smallmouth bass, black crappie, bluegill, yellow perch, and rock bass, with Lower Bottle even hosting muskie. A state-owned public boat access is located on the north shore of Upper Bottle Lake off County Road 24, providing easy navigation between both lakes through their connecting channel

Situated in the heart of Minnesota's Heartland Lakes region, Upper and Lower Bottle Lakes offer visitors access to the charming communities of Park Rapids, Nevis, and Dorset, each brimming with local character and attractions. The tiny village of Dorset, just five miles south, famously claims to be the Restaurant Capital of the World with four exceptional restaurants serving a population of only 22 residents, hosting the annual Taste of Dorset festival each August. Park Rapids, approximately 15 miles away, serves as the county seat and gateway to Itasca State Park, where visitors can walk across the headwaters of the mighty Mississippi River. The area features the scenic Heartland Trail for biking and hiking, Evergreen Gifts & Fun Park with family attractions, Forestedge Winery showcasing northern fruit wines, multiple golf courses, and access to both the Chippewa National Forest and Paul Bunyan State Forest with their extensive trail systems for ATVs, snowmobiles, and wildlife viewing

This beautifully crafted laser-cut wooden map depicting Upper and Lower Bottle Lakes would make a stunning focal point in your lake home, cabin, or den, capturing the unique character of these connected waterways. The artistic design showcases both lakes with their distinctive shapes and connecting narrows, featuring a natural wood top layer that highlights the intricate shoreline details, islands, and surrounding landscape. The water depth is elegantly represented through a graduated light blue to dark blue gradient, illustrating the transition from Upper Bottle's moderate 55-foot depths to Lower Bottle's dramatic 110-foot basin, creating a striking visual contrast that tells the geological story of these remarkable waters. Whether you're commemorating memorable fishing trips, family gatherings, or quiet moments on the water, this handcrafted piece brings the natural beauty of Minnesota's Northwoods into your home as both sophisticated wall art and a cherished reminder of your connection to these pristine lakes

  • True layered 3D construction. Not engraved or printed
  • More layers, more detail. Most competitors use 3 to 7 layers. These use 8 or 15 layers
  • Original blue depth gradient. Light to dark blue shows water depth clearly

These are built to be the most accurate and most detailed 3D lake maps available.

Frequently Asked Questions

Are these actually 3D or just engraved?

These are true 3D layered maps.

  • Made from 1/8 inch Baltic birch
  • Standard maps have 8 layers. 1 land layer and 7 water layers
  • HD maps have 15 layers. 1 land layer and 14 water layers

Each water layer uses a light to dark blue gradient so depth changes are easy to see.

Where are these made?

Everything is made in my shop in Minnesota.

  • Design
  • Cutting
  • Painting
  • Assembly
  • Frame building

The frames start as locally sourced rough sawn hardwood and are built from scratch.

Do you use real depth data?

Yes, as an angler and map nerd, accuracy matters to me. I use multiple data sources, up to six, to find the most accurate lake contours available.

I would not hang an inaccurate map in my house and I will not send one to yours.

Why buy from Horn Dog Maps instead of Etsy or marketplace sellers?

Most marketplace sellers:

  • Buy pre-made cut files, often from overseas
  • Have no connection to the lakes
  • Cannot verify accuracy
  • Have long delays if a file is not available

This leads to lower accuracy and longer lead times, often 6 to 8 weeks.

Because I design everything myself:

  • I can create a new lake mockup in about 30 minutes
  • You get a more accurate map, faster

What is your lead time?

Most orders ship in 1.5 to 2 weeks depending on the time of year.

Tell me about the Cribbage Boards

These are different from the layered maps and are not something you will find elsewhere.

  • Made from a solid piece of Maple or Cherry
  • The lake is engraved as if drained
  • Then filled with blue tinted epoxy that is still transparent

You can see:

  • Channels
  • Humps
  • Points
  • Structure

Additional features:

  • 2 or 3 track options
  • Choice of peg colors
  • Hidden peg storage with a magnetic dovetail slider
  • Rubber feet so it does not slide on the table

It is a functional game board and a detailed lake model in one.
