Victoria, known as the "City of Lakes and Parks" with thirteen scenic lakes and over 200 acres of parkland, was first settled by Michael Diethelm from Switzerland in 1851 and today boasts a population of 11,900 residents enjoying small-town hospitality with convenient urban access. The 1,800-acre Carver Park Reserve surrounding the lake features Lowry Nature Center (the first public nature center built in the Twin Cities), Grimm Farm Historic Site called the birthplace of the Dairy Belt, King Waterbird Sanctuary where visitors spot trumpeter swans, osprey, mink, white-tailed deer, and barred owls, plus Lake Auburn Campground with 57 rustic campsites and an unguarded beach. The reserve offers exceptional recreation including over 10 miles of Monarch Singletrack mountain biking trails, the Paradise Playground bike park opened in 2023, extensive cross-country ski trails groomed for skate and classic skiing, a 27-acre off-leash dog area, archery programs, and miles of hiking and horseback riding trails through rolling wooded terrain. Nearby attractions include the world-renowned 1,200-acre Minnesota Landscape Arboretum with stunning public gardens, Schram Vineyards Winery & Brewery and Parley Lake Winery for tastings and tours, the Carver County Historical Society Museum founded in 1940, Victoria Farmers Market showcasing local producers, and exceptional shopping and dining throughout Carver County's eleven unique communities including Chaska with Firemen's Park splash pad and the Chaska Curling Center, Waconia with Lake Waconia (the Twin Cities' second-largest lake), Minnesota's Largest Candy Store in Jordan, and Prince's Paisley Park. The area provides year-round recreation across 115 lakes and over 4,000 acres of parks with endless trails, plus easy access via Highway 212 directly connecting to Minneapolis making Victoria and Lake Zumbra the perfect escape from urban life while remaining just minutes from the Twin Cities

This beautifully handcrafted laser-cut wooden topographical map of Lake Zumbra would make a charming addition to your Victoria-area home, Carver County cabin, or office, celebrating your connection to this pristine lake within Carver Park Reserve at the heart of the "City of Lakes and Parks." The artistic design features a natural wood top layer that perfectly frames the lake's 271-acre basin with six miles of mostly undeveloped shoreline protected by Three Rivers Park District, while the water depths are represented through a captivating gradient flowing from light blue in the 14-foot average areas to rich deeper blue at the impressive 58-foot maximum depth. Frequently Asked Questions

Are these actually 3D or just engraved?

These are true 3D layered maps.

  • Made from 1/8 inch Baltic birch
  • Standard maps have 8 layers. 1 land layer and 7 water layers
  • HD maps have 15 layers. 1 land layer and 14 water layers

Each water layer uses a light to dark blue gradient so depth changes are easy to see.

Where are these made?

Everything is made in my shop in Minnesota.

  • Design
  • Cutting
  • Painting
  • Assembly
  • Frame building

The frames start as locally sourced rough sawn hardwood and are built from scratch.

Do you use real depth data?

Yes, as an angler and map nerd, accuracy matters to me. I use multiple data sources, up to six, to find the most accurate lake contours available.

I would not hang an inaccurate map in my house and I will not send one to yours.

Why buy from Horn Dog Maps instead of Etsy or marketplace sellers?

Most marketplace sellers:

  • Buy pre-made cut files, often from overseas
  • Have no connection to the lakes
  • Cannot verify accuracy
  • Have long delays if a file is not available

This leads to lower accuracy and longer lead times, often 6 to 8 weeks.

Because I design everything myself:

  • I can create a new lake mockup in about 30 minutes
  • You get a more accurate map, faster

What is your lead time?

Most orders ship in 1.5 to 2 weeks depending on the time of year.

Tell me about the Cribbage Boards

These are different from the layered maps and are not something you will find elsewhere.

  • Made from a solid piece of Maple or Cherry
  • The lake is engraved as if drained
  • Then filled with blue tinted epoxy that is still transparent

You can see:

  • Channels
  • Humps
  • Points
  • Structure

Additional features:

  • 2 or 3 track options
  • Choice of peg colors
  • Hidden peg storage with a magnetic dovetail slider
  • Rubber feet so it does not slide on the table

It is a functional game board and a detailed lake model in one.
